Starting off with a blur
Didn’t mean to be so slack in 2022. But the holidays feel rather extended this year.
We (my family group) missed having in-person dinners with all our loved ones, just like you I’m sure. So the feeling of festivity, and then closure, is just not there for a second year.
The weeks leading up to the 2022 new year, and now a week past the start of 2022, have schmeered together in my mind. So I’m shaking off this lazy-minded blur to make sure I offer you my best wishes for your 2022.
My plans for 2022
Maintain focus on my illustration style - drawing and painting.
Keeping up with online class commitments I have lined up for almost every month in 2022. Live classes that give me a social outlet as well.
GET AN ILLUSTRATION AGENT!
Set up a Procreate illustrating method on iPad for more painterly illustrations.
Two illustration silos I will attend to in 2022. Kid Lit illustration is one style. Editorial illustration is the other style. I have a lot of editorial illustration experience. Re-upping my game.
New and unexpected challenge
My thumb! Trigger (finger) thumb has affected my right drawing hand. It may have occurred because I have been drawing vector illustrations constantly for months on my laptop touchpad.
It seems I have a nodule at the knuckle at the base of my thumb that causes my outer thumb knuckle to click. This became painful.
I tried three different thumb contraptions via Amazon.
The contraption that seems to be assisting my desire to draw, and not bend my outer knuckle at all, is something called Oval 8.
So far, so good. Still planning to go to the orthopedist to make sure I am doing the right thing. Don’t want to mess up my money-maker right hand!
I have also started to use a vertical blue tooth mouse to relieve the awkward angles my hand has to be in to produce drawings on my laptop.
This has helped a great deal by allowing the hand and fingers to move more naturally when scrolling and clicking. The blue tooth connectivity equals no cord involvement. The pixel ratio sensitivity supports onscreen cursor accuracy. Very important for designing and illustrating.
Finding a solution to thumb pain made me a happy camper.
Not having to change my illustration style to accommodate a hand injury is very important since I have just invested a year into developing my illustration style.
Thumbs up!!!
